The Truth Can Be Painful

"Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses."  Proverbs 27:6 (NIV)

King Solomon said that it is better to hear the hurtful truth from a friend, than to hear flattering lies from an enemy.

The truth can be hurtful at times.  However, it is better to be rebuked, corrected, and chastised by a friend who is telling you the truth, than it is to be flattered and have your ego stroked by someone who is deceiving you with lies.  The Bible states that when you know the truth, the truth will set you free. (John 8:32)  It did not say that you will always like the truth when you hear it.  Remember, Jesus Christ said, "I am The Way,The Truth, and The Life ..." (John 14:6)  Speak the truth, and receive the truth when it is spoken to you.
