Heavenly Protection

"Because thou hast made The Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;"

"There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling."

"For He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways." Psalms 91:9-11

As the song says, "O to be kept, by Jesus ..." He can keep you safe from all hurt, harm, and danger.

Our Days & Years

"Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound; they shall walk, O Lord, in the light of Thy countenance. In Thy name shall they rejoice all the day; and in Thy righteousness shall they be exalted. For Thou art the glory of their strength; and in Thy favour our horn shall be exalted. For The Lord is our defence; and The Holy One of Israel is our King." Psalms 89:15-18

"For a thousand years in Thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night." Psalms 90:4

"The days of our years are three-score years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be four-score years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away." Psalms 90:10

"So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom." Psalms 90:12

Rejoice in The Lord every day of your life for you do not know how many days you have left.

Return Unto The Lord

Have you fallen out of fellowship with The Lord? Have you been our of church or stopped praying? Have you been back-sliding so long that you are not sure if you would be welcomed back into God's good graces?

The Bible says, "... Return unto The Lord thy God; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity. Take with you words, and turn to The Lord; and say unto Him, 'Take away all iniquity, and receive us ..." Hosea 14:1-2

God will take us back, just as He instructed Hosea to take back his unfaithful wife.

Promotions Come From God

Are you feeling under-appreciated at work? Were you passed over for the promotion or raise that you thought you deserved? Don't complain because you did not get what you feel you deserved.

"... Promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge; He putteth down one, and setteth up another." Psalms 75:6-7

"... Do not boast ... Do not lift up your horn ..." Psalms 75:4-5 Do not exalt yourself, it is not good to sing praises to one's own self.

It is God who decides who gets what, and when, according to His plan.

Let Me Not Be A Stumbling Block

"O God, Thou knowest my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from Thee. Let not them that wait on Thee. O Lord God of hosts, be ashamed for my sake; let not those that seek Thee be confounded for my sake, O Lord God of Israel." Psalms 69:5-6

I am far from perfect. "... I acknowledge my transgressions; and my sin is ever before me." Psalms 51:3

Let me not be a stumbling block for anyone else.

A Universal Prayer

"God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause His face to shine upon us ... That Thy way may be known upon earth, Thy saving health among all nations. Let the people praise Thee, O God; let all the people praise Thee." Psalms 67:1-3

This short song is an intercessory prayer for God's mercy and blessings for all of us. It is not often that we pray for all of the people in all of the countries in the world.

Need Help?

Are you having a hard time carrying all of your burdens?

"Cast thy burden upon The Lord, and He shall never the righteous to be moved." Psalms 55:22

"Truly my soul waiteth upon God; from Him cometh my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved." Psalms 62:1-2

"In God is my salvation and my glory; the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God." Psalms 62:7

Sunday, October 24, 2010

God Is

"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God ..." Psalms 53:1

I know that God exists and that He is real. That's why I pray, and that's why I sing, "God is".

Psalms 51 - A Prayer Of Cleansing

Psalms 51 - David's prayer of cleansing

1"Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Thy lovingkindness; according unto the multitude of Thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions."

2 "Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin."

3 "For I acknowledge my transgressions; and my sin is ever before me."

4 "Against Thee, Thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in Thy sight ..."

7 "Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow."

8 "Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which Thou hast broken may rejoice."

9 "Hide Thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities."

10 "Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me."

11 "Cast me not away from Thy presence; and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me."

12 "Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation; and uphold me with Thy free spirit."

14 "Deliver me from blood-guiltiness, O God, Thou God of my salvation; and my tongue shall sing aloud of Thy righteousness."

15 "O Lord, open Thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth Thy praise."

God Is

The song says, "God is my protection ... God is my guide and direction ... God is the joy and the strength of my life ..."

When we are in trouble and need help, we need to let go and let God.

The Bible says, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." Psalms 46:1

There are some things that we cannot do for ourselves. We should praise God and thank Him for the things that He does. He is all powerful, all knowing, and is everywhere at the same time.

"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth." Psalms 46:10

When God is busy, we need to stop and just stand still.

We sing, "After you've done all you can, you just stand."

Blessed Is He That Gives To The Poor

As Christians, we should be kind to those who are less fortunate than we are.

"Blessed is he that considereth the poor; The Lord will deliver him in time of trouble. The Lord will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth ..." Psalms 41:1-2

All of the blessings that we receive were not meant for us to keep to ourselves. We were to pass them on and share them with others. Remember the rich man and the beggar Lazarus, Luke 16: 19-31

When we give to the poor, we lend to The Lord and He will repay us, Proverbs 19:17

Trust In The Lord

"I waited patiently for The Lord; and He inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And He hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God ... Blessed is that man that maketh The Lord his trust ..." Psalms 40:1-4

Trust in The Lord, He will hear you, and He will help you. He will turn you midnight into day, and give you a new song of joy and praise to sing.

"Trust in The Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thy own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths." Proverbs 3:5-6

Do The Right Thing

Some times it is hard to do the right thing when those around you are doing wrong. Remember that we are in this world but not of it.

"Fret not thyself because of evil doers ... Trust in The Lord, and do good ... Delight thyself in The Lord ... Commit the way unto The Lord ... And He shall bring forth thy righteousness ..." Psalms 37:1-6

"Cease from anger, and forsake wrath ... For evil doers shall be cut off; but those that wait upon The Lord, shall inherit the earth ..." Psalms 37:8-9

"The steps of a good man are ordered by The Lord; and he delighteth in His way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for The Lord upholdeth him with His hand." Psalms 37:23-24

Do the right thing and do not worry about those that do wrong. They will get what is coming to them. Let's be careful and watch our steps. Let's make sure that we are following The Lord.

Good Advice for Christian Behavior

If we would praise God more often, maybe we would sin less and not get into so much trouble.

"I will bless The Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth." Psalms 34:1

"O magnify The Lord with me, let us exalt His name together." Psalms 34:3

"O taste and see that The Lord is good; blessed is the man that trusteth in Him." Psalms 34:8

"Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it." Psalms 34:13-14

That is good advice for Christian behavior.

"Many are the afflictions of the righteous; but The Lord delivereth him out of all of them." Psalms 34:19

F. Y. I.

F. Y. I.

I have updated my website www.revwendell.comm with my most recent posts on Twitter, Facebook, and Blogger. They can be found on the 'Life Lessons' page, below all of the links.

Psalms 31 - Shortened

When things are not going well with you, read Psalms 31. The following is a shortened version.

"In Thee, O Lord, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed ... For Thou art my rock and my fortress ... I will be glad and rejoice in Thy mercy ... Psalms 31:1-7

"Have mercy upon me , O Lord, for I am in trouble ..." Psalms 31:9

"For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing; my strength faileth because of mine iniquity ..." Psalms 31:10

"Make Thy face to shine upon Thy servant; save me for Thy mercies sake." Psalms 31:16

"O love The Lord, all ye His saints; for The Lord preserveth the faithful ... Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in The Lord." Psalm 31:23-24

As I have stated previously, some times we need to pray like David prayed and sing the songs that He sang.

Joy Cometh In The Morning

We make a lot of mistakes. We sin often and we know it. Sometimes God punishes us for what thought, said, or did, and sometimes He just allows bad thing to happen to us. We make Him mad, but He loves us and He does not stay mad at us for very long. Then He blesses us again.

"Sing into The Lord, O ye saints of His, and give thanks at the remembrance if His holiness.

For His anger endureth but a moment; in His favor is life; weeping may endureth for a night, but joy cometh in the morning." Psalms 30:4-5

Whatever it is that makes us cry, it won't last for long. Think of the bad situation as a punishment and realize that God won't let it last for very long. A blessing is coming right after it.

It is not that we deserve to be blessed, we really deserve more punishment that we get. God is good. And as bad as we are, we are still His children.

No matter how dark it gets at night, joy cometh in the morning.

Praise His Name

Frequently we ask God for what we want, but rarely do we give God what He wants. He wants our praise.

"Give unto The Lord the glory due unto His name; worship The Lord in the beauty of holiness." Psalms 29:2

The Lord loves us and blesses us, even as we mess up and continue to sin and act ungrateful. Think about how much more pleased with us He would be if we kept His commandments and praised His name.

God is a much better heavenly Father than any earthly father could be. If an earthly father will give more to a good kid, think about how much more our heavenly Father would give us if we would obey Him and give Him praise, honor, and glory.

"The Lord will give strength unto His people; The Lord will bless His people with peace." Psalms 29:11

The Lord God will bless us with peace in the mist of our storms if we would just focus on Him.

"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee ..." Isaiah 26:3

What Are You Afraid Of?

What are you afraid of? Christians should not be afraid of anything.

"The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" Psalms 27:1-2

When we follow The Lord, we have no need to fear anything. He lights our paths, He gives us direction. He strengthens us when we are weak. He is our protection and He fights our battles.

Given that He is all knowing, all powerful, and everywhere at the same time, what do we have to be afraid of?

"There is no fear in love ... perfect love casteth out fear ..." 1 John 4:18 God is love and God is perfect. There is no fear in God.

Lord, Have Mercy

If we are honest with ourselves, most of us will admit that we have messed up a lot trying to do things our way. We need help and forgiveness for our sins.

"Shew me Thy ways, O Lord; teach me Thy paths. Lead me in Thy truth, and teach me;
for Thou art The God of my salvation; on Thee do I wait all the day.

Remember, O Lord, Thy tender mercies and Thy loving-kindnesses;
for they have been ever of old.

Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions;
according to Thy mercy remember Thou me for Thy goodness sake, O Lord." Psalms 25:4-7

We really do not want to be reminded of all of our past sins. We need God's grace and mercy.
Grace, we want God to give us of His goodness that which we don't deserve; and
Mercy, we want Him to withhold the punishment that we do deserve.

That's why like David, we appeal to God's mercy and tender loving-kindness.

Lift Up Your Heads

Don't let life get you down. Don't give in to worldly pressures and negativity. Don't walk around with your head hung down, look up.

"Lift up your heads, O ye gates, and be ye lifted up ... and The King of glory shall come in." Psalms 24:7 & 9

"I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from The Lord ..." Psalms 121:1-2

There is no need for Christians to be down in the dumps. All we have to do is look to The Lord.

The Lord Is My Shepherd

All of us follow some one. The question is, who are you following? Where are you being led and who is protecting you?

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me besides the still waters. He restoreth my soul; He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake." Psalms 23:1-3

Sheep would be lost without a shepherd. Sheep will not drink for running water. Sheep need to be protected and cannot build their own homes.

"...Goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of The Lord for ever." Psalms 23:6

"Goodness and mercy" have got my back. And I am looking forward to living throughout eternity in a house not made by hands.

Who are you following, where are they leading you, what are they providing for you, are you safe with them, and will you be safe in the future with them?

Pray Like David

David was not a perfect man. He sinned, and he sinned more than once, just like us. But, David was honest with God when he confessed his sins and when he asked to be forgiven.

"Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer." Psalms 19:14

That's why David was a man after God's own heart. Maybe we should pray like David prayed.

Let Us Do Better

Are you striving to be a better Christian? We all fall short, the question is which of your shortcomings are you trying to improve?

A good Christian exhibits integrity and reliability, respects the people of God and holds himself accountable for his words & deeds.

"He who walks uprightly, and works righteousness, ans speaks the truth in his heart;
He who does not backbite with his tongue, nor does evil to his neighbor, nor does he take up reproach against his friend;" Psalms 15:1-5

The Bible is the instruction manual for good Christian living. Unfortunately, many of us do not read it, and most of us read it but do not follow it.

Let's do better!

Praise The Lord

No matter what happens, give God praise. He knows what has happened, why it happened, and what the results will be because it happened. We cannot see the big picture and God knows everything.

God has blessed us in more ways than we can count. He is worthy of all praise, honor, and glory.

"I will praise You, O Lord, with my whole heart;
I will tell of all Your marvelous works.
I will be glad and rejoice in You;
I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High." Psalms 9:1-2

We should dedicate ourselves to the sincere worship of God. He has done great things throughout history and in each of our lives.

He gives us what we need, let's give Him what He wants ... our praise.

Stressed Out, Pray

When the world seems to be getting the best of you, pray. When things are piling up on you, pray. When life has gotten you down in the dumps, pray.

"Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am weak; My soul is also greatly troubled ... Oh, save me for Your mercies' sake ... I am weary with my groaning ... Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity; For The Lord has heard the voice of my weeping. The Lord has heard my supplication; The Lord will receive my prayer." Psalms 6:2-9

Have faith in The Lord, even in the time of distress. As the song says, "He can, and He will, work it out."

Pray, And Pray For Guidance

Prayer should be the first thing that we do in the morning when we wake up and the last thing that we do at night before we go to bed. We should pray before we eat, before we make a decision, and before we begin any journey.

Even when we think that we know where we are going, we need to pray for guidance and direction.

"Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider my meditation. Give heed to the voice of my cry, my King and my God, for to You I will pray. My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; In the morning I will direct it to You, And I will look up." Psalms 5:1-3

"... Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness ..." Psalms 5:8

"The steps of a good man are ordered by The Lord ..." Psalms 37:23

The song says, "Order my steps in Your Word dear Lord;
Lead me, guide me, everyday;
Send Your anointing, Father, I pray;
Order my steps in Your word."

Watch What You Say

We often talk too much. We say a lot of words without really saying anything significant. Some of us seem to just talk to hear ourselves talk. Some people talk so much that it is hard for others to get a word word in the conversation. However, idle conversation is also bad.

"... That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgement. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned." Matthew 12:36-37

While this might seem like an insignificant "little thing", there is no such thing as a little sin, a sin is a sin against God. Whatever we do, say or think that does not give God glory is unrighteous and the Bible says, "All unrighteousness is sin; and there is a sin not unto death." 1 John 5:17

Therefore be very careful regarding what you say, because it may be held against you on judgement day.

Are You Tired And Heavy Laden?

If you feel like the weight of the world is upon your shoulders and it is weighing you down, you need help. Jesus said, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me ... and ye shall find rest unto your souls." Matthew 11:28-29

We suffer sometimes and make things harder on ourselves because we try to handle things by ourselves. We should try doing things His way instead of doing them our way. The more we learn about Him, the easier that will be.

"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus ..." Philippians 2:5

If we would change our mind set, and become more Christ-like, then we would be much better off.

Beware Of False Prophets

Everything that sounds good is not the truth. Just because someone says that some thing is in the Bible, does not mean that it is in there or that what they said is Biblically correct. Be careful of who you follow and who you listen to.

"Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves." Matthew 7:15

Everyone who claims to be a man of God or a child of God in not telling the truth. "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven." Matthew 7:21

"And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you; depart from me, ye that work iniquity." Matthew 7:23

We all need to read and study the Bible for ourselves. "Study to show thyself approved unto God ... rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15

Be careful of what and who you listen to and what you say. "... Shun profane babblings; for they will increase unto more ungodliness." 2 Timothy 2:16

Ask And You Shall Receive

During His sermon on the mountain, Jesus said, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you;"

"For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened."

"If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good thing s to them that ask Him?" Matthew 7:7-8 & 11

If He is not your Father, do not expect that He will give you what you ask for. And it you do not believe, don't waste your time.

"And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive." Matthew 21:22

"... Ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss ..." James 4:2-3

Least we misunderstand the purpose of this, we need to ask for things that will help us give God Glory, not things to glorify ourselves.

"And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that The Father may be glorified in The Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. If ye love me, keep my commandments." John 14:13-15

To get "... any thing ..." you ask for you must keep His commandments.

Where Is Your Treasure?

"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal; But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal; For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." Matthew 6:19-21

Our problem is that we place value on the temporary things of this world and do not value the things which have eternal implications.

What we value says a lot about our beliefs and motives. How we treat others says a lot about more about us than we realize.

We spend a lot of time planning for and worrying about things which, in the final scheme of things, really is not important or worthwhile.

"For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" Mark 8:36

What do you treasure?
