PROCLAMATION
“Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels,
numbering … ten thousand times ten thousand … saying: ‘Worthy is The Lamb, who
was slain, to receive … honor and glory and praise!’ ” Revelation 5:11-12 (NIV)
EXPLANATION
These
are the words of prophecy from The New Testament Bible Book of Revelation,
which was revealed to, and written by, the Apostle John, under the influence of
The Holy Spirit of God. In this fifth chapter, while he was still in the
spirit, John was shown a vision of the throne in heaven. (Revelation 4:1-2 and
5:1) He saw and heard a mighty angel
ask, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?” John wept because there was no one found in
heaven or on earth who was worthy the open the scroll. (Revelation 5:2-4) Then one of the elders told him not to weep
because The Lion of the tribe of Judah, The Root of David, was able to open the
scroll. Then he saw The Lamb standing in
the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures. (Revelation
5:5-6) When The Lamb had taken the
scroll for Him who sat on the throne, the four living creatures and the
twenty-four elders fell down before The Lamb and sang a song, saying: “You are worthy
…” (Revelation 5:7-10) Then John saw and
heard the tens of thousands of angels saying: “Worthy is The Lamb …” And the four living creatures and the
twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped. (Revelation 5:11-14)
APPLICATION
There is some debate among the Bible scholars with
respect to the nature of the scroll or book that is referred to in this fifth
chapter of Revelation, however, it is clear that only The Lamb of God, Jesus
The Christ, can break the seals, open it, and read it. What is also clear is that all of the angels,
and all of the elders, and the four living creatures in heaven all worshiped
The Lamb of God. The Lamb is worthy to open
the book, and He is worth of honor, glory, and praise from those in heaven and
on earth. He receives this from all of
the heavenly hosts. One day soon He will
receive honor, glory, and praise from all those on earth; “... every knee shall bow, and every tongue shall
confess …” (Isaiah 45:23 and Romans 14:11) Praise The Lord!
