THE SEVEN SEALS AND THE TRIBULATION

PROCLAMATION

“I watched as The Lamb opened … the seven seals.  Then I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder, “Come!”  I looked, and there before me was …”  Revelation 6:1-2 (NIV)

EXPLANATION

These are the words of prophecy which were revealed to, and written by, the Apostle John, under the influence of The Holy Spirit of God.  In this sixth chapter of Revelation, while he was still in the spirit (Revelation 4:2), John was shown a vision. (Revelation 5:1)  As The Lamb of God opened the first seal, John saw a white horse.  Its rider held a bow without any arrows, and he was given a crown.  This conqueror was the false Messiah, the Antichrist. (Revelation 6:1-2)  When The Lamb opened the second seal, John saw a fiery red horse.  Its rider was given a large sword.  He had the power to end peace on earth and make people kill each other. (Revelation 6:3-4)  When The Lamb opened the third seal, John saw a black horse.  Its rider held a pair of scales.  He had the power to remove all wheat and barley, power of famine. (Revelation 6:5-6)  When The Lamb opened the fourth seal, John saw a pale horse.  Its rider was named Death and Hades was following close behind him. (Revelation 6:7-8)  When The Lamb opened the fifth seal, John saw the souls of those martyrs who slain during the Tribulation because of their belief in The Word of God.  They wanted to be avenged and called out, “How long?” (Revelation 6:9-11)  When The Lamb opened the sixth seal, there was a great earthquake, the sun turned black, the moon turned blood red, and the stars fell from the sky. The heavens rolled up like a scroll, and every mountain and island was moved from its place.  All the people on earth ran and hid in caves because the great day of wrath had come. (Revelation 6:12-17)

APPLICATION

The Bible Book of Revelation is The New Testament book of prophecy.  The seals each represent a period during the Tribulation.  The first four seals represent the first half of the Tribulation.  The fifth seal represents the transition from the first half to the second half.  The sixth and seventh seals represent the second half of the Tribulation which ends with the return of Christ, the second coming.  People get ready because The Day of The Lord is coming, and no one will be able to withstand His wrath.  There will be no place to hide from Him.  Repent while there is still time.
