PROCLAMATION
“… And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like
a trumpet said, ‘Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after
this.’ At once I was in the spirit, and
there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it.” Revelation 4:1-2 (NIV)
EXPLANATION
These
are the words of the New Testament Bible Book of Revelation, the book of
prophecy, which was revealed to, and written by, the Apostle John, under the
influence of The Holy Spirit of God. In this fourth chapter John records
that he was taken up in the spirit and he was shown a vision of the throne in
heaven. (Revelation 4:1-2) He described
the person sitting on the throne and the twenty-four surrounding other thrones upon
which sat twenty-four elders. (Revelation 4:3-5) He described the area in front of the main
throne as a sea of clear glass like crystal, and then he described the four living
creatures which were around the throne. (Revelation 4:5-8) The creatures were giving praise to The Lord
God Almighty and the twenty-four elders were worshipping Him. (Revelation 4:8-11)
APPLICATION
All believers have heard people describe what they are
going to do when they get to heaven.
This includes time spent fishing and reunions with loved ones. Some have even said that there are some
questions they plan to ask God about some of the things which happen on
earth. All that John saw occurring in
heaven in his vision was praise and worship.
Most Bible scholars believe that the twenty-four elders that John saw
represented the church, inclusive of the whole body of the church meaning all
of the saints. The only activity that
the church is involved in heaven, according to what was revealed to John in The
Book of Revelation, is singing, praise, and worship. The entire focus of the church is on The Lord
God Almighty who sits on the throne.
Maybe we should practice doing that while we are here on earth.
