Proclamation:
“Your word, Lord, is eternal; it stands
firm in the heavens. Your faithfulness
continues through all generations … Your laws endure to this day, for all
things serve You.” Psalm 119:89-91 (NIV)
Explanation:
The words of this psalm were written by King
David under the influence of The Holy Spirit of God. This is the twelfth part, Lamedh, of this
twenty-two part psalm. Here David
glorifies The Lord God and His Holy Word.
He proclaims the immutable nature of The Word of God and the unchanging
faithfulness of God Himself.
Application:
The Lord God has not changed and He will
not change. He is the same today as He
was yesterday, and all of the yesterdays before that, and He will be the same
tomorrow, and for all of the tomorrows to come.
His promises are eternal and apply continually from generation to
generation. The Word of God is
permanent. “Heaven and earth shall pass
away, but my words shall not pass away.” (Matthew 24:35) There will be a new heaven and a new earth,
(Isaiah 65:17, Isaiah 66:22, and Revelation 21:1) but The Word of God shall
continue unchanged. Put your hope in things that are eternal.
(Titus 1:2) We all should trust, worship,
praise, and serve The Lord, for He is worthy.
