Proclamation:
“Blessed are those whose ways are
blameless, who walk according to the law of The Lord. Blessed are those who keep His statutes and
seek Him with all their heart; they do no wrong but follow His ways.” Psalm 119:1-3 (NIV)
Explanation:
The words of this psalm were written by
King David under the influence of The Holy Spirit of God. Most Bible scholars think that it was written
for the benefit of his son Solomon who would be king. It contains a collection of David’s observations
on The Word of God and its precepts. It
is uniquely constructed to contain twenty-two parts, according to the number of
letters in the Hebrew alphabet, and each part consists of eight verses. The first part, Aleph, begins by saying that people
who do that which is right, who obey The Word of God and His statutes, and who
truly seek Him will be blessed. Those
who behave and walk in a Godly way will be blessed.
Application:
It is not good enough for us to read and know
The Word of God, we must also live it.
We must be sincere and upright in the sight of God. The Word of God contains His precepts for our
behavior and they must be obeyed. (Psalm 119:4)
This is not about the rituals and religious traditions which we
routinely do in our worship services, this is about the way we live our daily lives. We should walk the straight and narrow path
as Christ taught us. (Matthew 7:14) For
He is the way, the truth and the life, and He is the only way that leads to salvation
and eternal life.
