“So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him … Suddenly an angel of The Lord appeared … and woke him up … “follow me," the angel told him … Peter followed him out of the prison ... passed the first and second guards and … suddenly the angel left him. Then Peter came to himself and … he went to the house of Mary the mother of John, also called Mark, where many people had gathered and were praying.” Acts 12:5-12 (NIV)
Luke, the physician, wrote this New Testament history book to document the events surrounding the development of the early church. Here he records the power of corporate prayer. The church was praying for Peter after his arrest, knowing that King Herod had planned to kill him as he had killed the Apostle James.
Prayer is powerful tool of the Christian army. There is power in individual and corporate prayer. The Bible states that where two or three are gathered together in His name, that God will be in the midst of them. (Matthew 18:20) If two or three can touch and agree on something to ask in prayer, it shall be done. (Matthew 18:19) If we, the members of the church, can get together, join hands, and earnestly pray and ask God for the same thing, we can change things. We have the power, through God in prayer, we just need to use it for His glory.
