Proclamation:
"But if serving The Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose
for yourselves this day whom you will serve ... But as for me and my household,
we will serve The Lord." Joshua
24:15 (NIV)
Explanation:
Explanation:
These
words were written under the influence of The Holy Spirit of God by the prophet
Joshua to the people of God. Joshua
asked the people to decide and choose whom they would serve if they found
serving The Lord God troublesome or a burden.
They could choose to serve one of the pagan gods worshiped by the people
in land where they were living if they found that to be more profitable to
them. Then Joshua said that he, and all
within his household, would serve The Lord God.
Application:
Joshua asked the people to
make a choice regarding whom they would serve. We basically have that same choice today. There is no middle ground, either you love The
Lord and will serve Him or you don't and won't.
Joshua also led by example, he publicly committed himself and his
household to serving The Lord. Leadership
occasionally requires that one make a bold stand for what he believes in. We can't lead people where we will not or do
not go. As Christians we need to publicly
choose to serve The Lord. We need to make that choice known to all those
around us. We need to live our lives in
such a way as to make it clear for everyone to see that we have chosen to serve
The Lord.
