"See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of My Father in heaven. For The Son of Man is come to save that which was lost. What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off ? And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should be lost." Matthew 18:10-14 (NIV)
"These little one" refers to believers. Here Jesus makes it clear that each believer has a guardian angel, although it is not clear if an angel has more than one charge. Because we have our own free will, we like sheep occasionally wander off and stray from The Word of God. It is not the desire of God that any should be lost. Jesus was sent to earth to save the lost sheep. Each of us is important to Him, and there is rejoicing when a "lost sheep" is found.
We should be encouraged to know that each of us has a guardian angel. God loves us and has made provisions for our care and protection. The birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus was for our salvation from the penalty of our sins. It does not matter what it is that we have done, we can be forgiven and welcomed back into the sheepfold. Just because we are lost in sin, we do not have to stay that way. We fall down, but we do not have to stay down. However, we have to want to get up and we have to accept His help in order to get up. There is joy in heaven when a "lost sheep" is "found" and returns to the followers of The Word of God.
