"Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)
The Apostle Matthew recorded these words of Jesus as He spoke to His disciples and the people in the cities which they had recently visited and advised them not to worry about anything. Jesus extended an open invitation to all those who were tired, overworked, weary, burdened, and overwhelmed due to the pressures of their life. He told them to come to Him and He would give them rest. He was offering them rest from their physical struggles and rest for their souls from their spiritual struggles. He told them to learn from Him, His way was easy.
Worrying is counter-productive, it does not help the present situation, in fact it makes things worse. Worrying robs us of the joy of the moment, and it damages our mental, physical, and spiritual being. Jesus, The Christ, said do not worry anything today, God knows what we need, and do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring a new set of challenges to us. (Matthew 6:25-34) Worry will not make us taller or smarter, but it will increase our stress level. Following Christ would be easy for us if we would let go of the world's value system. Unfortunately, we try to serve two masters, and that cannot be done. (Matthew 6:24) If we would stop trying to please man and begin to do the things which please God, we would be better off. If we would learn from Christ, by reading and studying The Word of God, we would find that His yoke is easy and His burden is light. Following Him is easy if we believe and have faith in Him.

Time Spent With The Lord Is Good
"Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to Him those He wanted, and they came to Him. He appointed twelve, designating them apostles, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons." Mark 3:13-15 (NIV)
John, whose surname was Mark, a companion of the Apostle Paul, addressed the gospel according to Mark to the Gentiles in Rome. He depicted Jesus as a suffering servant of God, demonstrating the humanity of Christ. Here John Mark records that Jesus called the twelve apostles, or disciples, another name for students. He wanted them to be with Him, close to Him, in fellowship. He wanted to give them authority, to share His power with them and to send them out into the world to preach and teach. Jesus wanted companions that He could teach, and that would do His will.
We would all benefit if we spent more time with The Lord. The disciples clearly benefited from the time that they spent with Jesus. Today, we are His disciples. We need to spend more time with His Word and in fellowship with Him. As His disciples we are His students, and by our study of The Word of God, He can teach and train us. Afterwards, He can bless us and share some of His power with us. Then He can use us to spread His Word to others and be a blessing to them. So let us make a commitment to spend a little more time each day in fellowship with, and learning from The Lord. Let Him bless us and use us as He sees fit, according to His purpose.

Rest And Relief From The Burdens Of Sin
"Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
This invitation from Jesus was to all those who were weary under the burden of sin. He offered them rest and relief from the burdens of sin.
All of us today are burdened with sin. The only relief that we have from sin is in Jesus, The Christ. With His atoning work on Calvary and His death, burial, and resurrection, He took all of our sins upon Himself and paid the price that we should have paid. However, we have to accept His invitation before we can be granted His rest. With His forgiveness, we can enjoy the blessings of His rest while we are alive, but the final and ultimate rest from sin is to be with Him in heaven after this life is done.
