TORTURE OUT OF THE ABYSS AND THE SIXTH TRUMPET

PROCLAMATION

“And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth; and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.  And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God on their foreheads.  And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months …”  Revelation 9:3-5 (KJV)

EXPLANATION

These are the words of prophecy which were revealed to, and written by, the Apostle John, under the influence of The Holy Spirit of God.  In this ninth chapter of Revelation, while he was still in the spirit (Revelation 4:2), John was shown a vision. (Revelation 5:1, 6:1-17, 7:1, and 8:1-2)  After the fifth angel sounded the trumpet, John saw a star, an agent of the devil, which had fallen from the sky.  The star was given the key to the Abyss, the bottomless pit.  When he opened the Abyss, smoke rose from it and darkened the sun and sky.  Out of the smoke came locusts which were like scorpions of the earth.  These locusts were ordered not harm the plants; they were to torture the people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads. (Revelation 9:1-5)  The torture was so bad that the people wished that they could die, but they were not allowed to die to end their suffering. (Revelation 9:6)  This was the first of the three woes mentioned previously. (Revelation 8:13)  When the sixth angel sounded the trumpet, John heard a voice saying: ‘Release the four angels …’ and a mounted army of twice ten thousand times ten thousand was released and killed one third of the remaining people. (Revelation 9:13-19) The rest of mankind who were not killed still did not repent.  They continued to worship idols and perform sexual immorality and murder. (Revelation 9:20-21)

APPLICATION

Throughout The Bible we have been told many times to repent.  From John, The Baptizer, (Matthew 3:1-2) to the early sermons of Jesus, The Christ. (Matthew 4:17)  Unfortunately, most of mankind is hardhearted and is in love with their sinful ways.  Some have repented and then shortly afterwards some of them returned to their previous sinful ways.  However, there are some people who are so committed to their sinful ways that even all of the death and destruction of the Great Tribulation period could not change their minds or their hearts. (Revelation 9:20-21)  These hardhearted men would not change or accept Christ.  Please do not associate with these individuals.  Hell is real, and eternity is a very long time.  Repent people, while there is time.  The torment and torture is coming for those that do not repent.
