PROCLAMATION
“I
know thy works, and thy labor, and thy patience, and how thou … hast borne, and hast patience, and for My name’s sake hast
labored, and hast not fainted.” Revelation 2:2-3 (KJV)
EXPLANATION
These
are the words of The New Testament Bible Book of Revelation, the book of
prophecy, which was revealed to, and written by, the Apostle John under the
influence of The Holy Spirit of God. In this second chapter John was told
by Christ (Revelation 1:1) to write to the angel of the church in Ephesus
(Revelation 2:1-7), to the church in Smyrna (Revelation 2:8-11), to the church
in Pergamum (Revelation 2:12-17), and to the church in Thyatira. (Revelation
2:18-29) John was told to tell the pastor of each church, the angel
of that church, and to tell the church members, that God knows their good works
and that He knows what they are going through. He also knows their
shortcomings. John was told to tell each church exactly what they
needed to do in order to get back into God’s good graces.
APPLICATION
This
Bible Book was written to the church as a whole, to each of the local churches,
then and now, and to all of the individual church members. The Lord
God knows all of our honorable deeds, our hard work, and our perseverance.
(Revelation 2:2) He also knows our afflictions and our poverty.
(Revelation 2:9) He knows where we live and our faithfulness.
(Revelation 2:13) He knows of our deeds, love, faith, service, and
our perseverance. (Revelation 2:18) Additionally, The Lord knows how
far we have fallen short of His Word, and He wants us to repent for our
shortcomings. (Revelation 2:5) More suffering is coming our way and
He wants us to continue to be faithful. (Revelation 2:10) We have
sinned and followed the ways of the world, and He wants us to repent from them.
(Revelation 2:14-16) We have tolerated and associated with evil,
immoral, and wicked people whom He will destroy. Each of us will be
repaid according to our deeds. (Revelation 2:20-23) We have been
warned. “Whoever has ears, let them hear what The Spirit of God says
to the churches.” (Revelation 2:29)
