PROCLAMATION
“But today I am freeing you from the chains on your
wrists. Come with me to Babylon, if you
like, and I will look after you; but if you do not want to, then don’t come …
go wherever you please.” Jeremiah 40:4
(NIV)
EXPLANATION
The captain of the guard of the imperial army of
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon appears to be elated that he was chosen to be
the instrument which The Lord God used to fulfill the prophecy which He had
Jeremiah to foretell. (Jeremiah 40:1-3)
The captain told Jeremiah that he was freeing him of the chains on his
wrists and freeing him from prison, allowing him to go wherever he wanted to
go. (Jeremiah 40:4-5) Jeremiah chose to
go back to Judah to be among his people, the poor remnant of God’s chosen
people that had been left behind and not taken into captivity. (Jeremiah 40:6)
APPLICATION
There are all types of chains that can bind us
including physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual. However, The Lord God can “Break Every Chain”
that holds us back and restrict us. He
has freed us from a life of sin with His gift of salvation and
justification. He has freed us from the
penalty of sin with His crucifixion, death, burial, and resurrection. All we have to do to be free from our chains
is to believe. (John 3:16)
