Walk With God

The names of a number of individuals are written in the Bible. Some names are mentioned more often than others. The Bible records that some men were born, they lived for a number of years, they had children, and then they died.

While a lot can be said about what some men of the Bible did, but there is very little recorded about some others did. We may not know very much about Enoch, but the Bible records that he "walked with God." And, the fact that Enoch "walked with God" is recorded twice in Genesis.

"And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years and begat sons and daughters." Genesis 5:22 "And Enoch walked with God; and he was not; for God took him." Genesis 5:24

He "walked with God" and he went to heaven without dying" as did Elijah, 2 Kings 2:11

It is generally assumed that Adam walked with God, Genesis 3:8, but Enoch is the first man that the Bible clearly records that he "walked with God." The only other man to have enjoyed this level of such an intimate and personal relationship with God was Enoch's great- grandson, Noah.

"... Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God." Genesis 6:9

To 'walk with God' implies a very special intimate relationship with God. Most of us just "talk the talk" but we do not really "walk the walk." While our names and lives will not be recorded in the Bible, there is a record being kept in heaven, 1 John 5:7

It would be great if our record would reflect that we were born, we believed, we were humble, and for a little while we walked with God.

Walk The Walk

Many of us say that we love The Lord, but our inconsistent actions speak louder than our words.

"... We do know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him."

"But whoso keepeth His word, in him verily is the love of God perfected; hereby we know that we are in Him. He that saith he abideth in Him ought himself also to walk, even as He walked." 1 John 2:3-6

Talk is cheap without the walk to back it up. We need to walk the Christian walk and not just talk the talk.

When we believe God's word, and when we desire to keep God's word, and we make an effort to keep His word, then we know that we are children of God.

The Fruit Of The Holy Spirit

"But the fruit of The Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance ... they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh ... If we live in The Spirit, let us also walk in The Spirit." Galatians 5:22-25

The English Standard version puts it this way, "... love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control ..."

Trees bear fruit based upon their nature. The fruit that we produce should be the same as the fruit of The Spirit, if The Spirit is within us. The previous verses, 19-21, list the things of the flesh that we should be dead to and no longer part of us.

If The Spirit of God is in us, then we should walk, talk, think, and behave in such a manner that the world can see the fruit of The Spirit in our lives. We should not have to tell people that we by are Christians, they should be able to detect that by observing us.
