"Then The Lord sent a great wind on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship threatened to break up." Jonah 1:4 (NIV)
While running from The Lord, the prophet Jonah boarded a ship and set sail for Tarshish to flee from The Lord because he did not want to go to Nineveh and preach as the The Lord had told him. (Jonah 1:1-3) So The Lord caused a great wind and a violent storm to occur that threatened the ship and the lives of all that were on board.
Today we refer to the bad times and trouble as the storms of life. I has been said that if you are not currently going through a storm, then either you are just coming out of one or you are about to enter into one. We all go through storms. What we do not realize is that some of the storms that we endure, we bring on ourselves. If we would obey The Word of God, then God would not have to punish us and our lives would be much more peaceful.

Disobeying God Is Not Good
"The Word of The Lord came to Jonah, son of Amittai: 'Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before Me.' But Jonah ran far away from The Lord and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from The Lord." Jonah 1:1-3 (NIV)
God spoke to the prophet Jonah and told him to go to Nineveh, a city where the people worshipped idle gods. Jonah did not want to go the this foreign country and preach to those people because he did not want them to be saved. So he ran from God and went in the opposite direction. This is the only recorded example of a prophet refusing to do what God told him to do.
There is a price to pay for flat out refusal to do the will of God. There is really no running away from God because He is omnipresent and is everywhere all at the same time. Jonah paid for his refusal to obey God (Jonah 1:15-16), and we will pay for our disobedience. Because of God's goodness and His mercy, after our punishment we can return to His good graces by repenting and asking for His forgiveness. Prayer changes things but we must have a change of heart first.

Condemnation By One Man Justification By One Man
"Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned ... For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ. Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men. For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous." Romans 5:12 & 17-19 (NIV)
To the Christians in Rome the Apostle Paul taught that because of Adam's trespass and disobedience all men were made sinners and condemned. And because of the righteousness
and obedience of Jesus, all men who believe were justified and made righteous.
Adam's sin condemned all men. Jesus Christ afforded justification and salvation to all men by His crucifiction, death, burial, and resurrection. He who was without sin, took on all of the sins of the world to justify all men. He paid the price for us. Justification is available for each of us, if we only believe.
