THE LORD GOD SEES EVERYTHING GOOD AND BAD

Proclamation:

“The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and on the good.”  Proverbs 15:3 (NIV)

Explanation:

This proverb was written by King Solomon under the influence of The Holy Spirit of God. This fifteenth proverb continues to compare and contrast that which is good and righteous with that which is not.  However, here Solomon inserts a statement of the omniscience of The Lord God.  In verse three Solomon says that God sees everything that is going on, everywhere.  Nothing is in all of creation is hidden from Him, everything is open and uncovered. (Hebrews 4:13)

Application:

The Lord God sees everything that we do, hears everything that we say, and knows everything that we think.  We need to keep this in mind as we go about our daily activities and when we pray to ask to be forgiven and for His help and guidance. 

THE LORD GOD KNOWS EVERYTHING ABOUT US

Proclamation:

“I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.  My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in the secret place …Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be.”  Psalm 139:14-16 (NIV)

Explanation:

The words of this psalm were written under the influence of The Holy Spirit of God by King David.  This psalm presents the omniscience of God.  David made it personal but the same applies to each and every one of us.  The Lord God knows his thoughts, his actions, his going out and his coming in. (Psalm 139:1-3)  He knows every word that David was going to speak before he spoke it. (Psalm 139:4)  The Lord God is all around him and there is no place that he can go where God is not already there. (Psalm 139:5-12)  The Lord God created him, formed him in his mother’s womb, and knew every part of him before he existed. (Psalm 139:13-16)

Application:

The Lord God is omniscient.  He knows everything that there is to know about each one of us, and He knew it before any of us ever existed.  He created us from the union of our mother and father, and guided our formation in our mother’s womb.  He knew our thoughts before we had them, our words before we spoke them, and our actions before we committed them.  He knows all, He is all powerful, and He is everywhere all at the same time.  He is worthy of our praise and worship.

THE WORDS OF MY MOUTH AND MY THOUGHTS

Proclamation:

“May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer."  Psalms 19:14 (NIV)

Explanation:

King David, a man after the heart of God, prayed this prayer out of his sincere desire to please God.  He had asked God for forgiveness of his sins, and he asked God to keep him from committing sin unintentionally and willfully. (Psalms 19:12-13)  Here he is praying for Him to guide his words and his thoughts, so that they might also be pleasing to The Lord.  He knows that his help, his strength, and his salvation all come from The Lord.

Application:

We would do well to ask God to forgive our sinful thoughts, words, and deeds, and to ask for His help to avoid unintentional and intentional sins.  We all need His help because we sin by omission as well as by commission.  David said that The Word of God warns us, and we are rewarded for obeying it. (Psalms 19:9-11)  We will be judged on our thoughts, (1 Samuel 16:7) our spoken words, (Matthew 12:36) and our actions. (Jeremiah 17:10 and 32:19, and Revelation 20:12)  We will also be judged on the things which we should have done but omitted. (Matthew 25:45)  David was a man after the heart of God because he had a sincere desire to please God.  Although he had sinned, he prayed frequently, and he asked God to forgive him, and he asked God to guide his thoughts, words, and deeds.  It would be good for us to do likewise.  We should pray that not only our actions would be pleasing to The Lord, but that the words of our mouths and the meditation of our hearts would be pleasing to Him.
