Proclamation
“Then came the word of The Lord unto Samuel,
saying, ‘It repenteth Me that I have set up Saul to be king; for he is turned
back from following Me, and hath not performed My commandments.’ And it grieved Samuel, and he cried unto The
Lord all night.” 1 Samuel 15:10-11 (KJV)
Explanation
These words were written under the
influence of The Holy Spirit of God by the prophet Samuel. The word
of The Lord came to Samuel and he spoke them unto Saul. He told Saul that The Lord said for him to go
and smite the Amalekites for what they had done to Israel. Saul was told to totally destroy them, men,
women, children, cattle, sheep, camels, and donkeys. (1 Samuel 15:1-3) So Saul gathered an army and he attacked the
Amalekites. However, Saul spared Agag,
their king, and skep the best of the sheep and cattle for themselves. This displeased The Lord God. (1 Samuel
15:4-11) The next morning Samuel
confronted Saul and he said that he had carried out the instructions of The Lord. Then Samuel asked why he heard the sounds of
sheep and cattle, and Saul said that the soldiers spared the best of the sheep
and cattle to sacrifice them unto The Lord.
Samuel then told Saul that he did not obey The Lord, he did not totally
destroy the Amalekites. And because he
had rejected The Word of The Lord, He has rejected him as king. (1 Samuel
15:12-23) Saul admitted that he had sinned and he begged
for forgiveness. As Samuel turned to
leave, Saul grabbed Samuel’s robe and it tore.
Samuel said that The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you and given
it to one of your neighbors. (1 Samuel 15:24-28) Saul repeated that he had sinned bur asked
Samuel to go back to the elders with him so that he could worship The
Lord. Samuel went with him and he
worshipped The Lord. Then Samuel called
for Agag king of the Amalekites and killed him.
Afterwards Samuel left and went to Ramah and Saul went to his house in Gibeah. Samuel mourned for Saul but died without ever
seeing him again. (1 Samuel 15:29-34)
Application
Once we believe and accept Christ as our
Lord and Savior, we are saved. Because
we are still human, even as Christians we still occasionally sin. Our sin does not end our relationship with our
Heavenly Father, we just interrupt our fellowship with Him. Sometimes our behavior really annoys The Lord
God. However, no matter what we do, if
we repent and confess our sins, He is willing to forgive us and He accepts us.
(Romans 10:9 and 1 John 1:9) There is
only one sin which will not be forgiven and that is if we blaspheme The Holy
Spirit. (Mark 3:29 and Luke 12:10)
