Proclamation
“And the angel of The Lord appeared unto the woman,
and said unto her, ‘Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not; but thou
shalt conceive, and bear a son.’ ”
Judges 13:3 (KJV)
Explanation
After the death of the judges the Israelites again did
evil in the sight of The Lord. (Judges 13:1)
An angel of The Lord appeared to the barren wife of Manoah of Zorah and
told her that she would bare a son. She was
told not to let him drink wine and not to cut his hair for he was to be a Nazarite,
dedicated to God from the womb. (Judges 13:2-5)
The woman went and told her husband what had transpired and he prayed that
the angel would reappear and teach them how to bring up the boy. The angel later reappeared and spoke with
them. (Judges 13:6-14) Manoah then asked
the angel to stay a while longer with them.
He refused to eat any of their food but told them to prepare a burnt
offering unto The Lord. When he prepared
the burnt offering the angel ascended to heaven in the flame. (Judges
13:15-20) Later the woman gave birth to
a son and named him Samson. As he grew
The Lord blessed him. (Judges 13:24-25)
Application
Things which are difficult or impossible for man are
not a problem for God. With the help of The
Lord God, the lame can walk, the blind can see, the deaf can hear, the sick are
healed, (Matthew 11:5 and Luke 7:22) and the barren can bear children. (Genesis
17:15-16, Genesis 30:22-23, and Judges 13:3-24) All
things are possible with God, and He can do all things for us if we only
believe. (Matthew 19:26 and Mark 9:23)
