PROCLAMATION
“Then I saw ‘a new heaven and a new earth,’ for the
first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any
sea. I saw the Holy City, the New
Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully
dressed for her husband.” Revelation 21:1-2
(NIV)
EXPLANATION
These
are the words of prophecy which were revealed to, and written by, the Apostle
John, under the influence of The Holy Spirit of God. In this twenty-first
chapter of Revelation, while he was still in the spirit, John saw the new
heaven and the new earth. He also saw
the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down from heaven. (Revelation
21:1-2) Then John heard a loud voice
from the throne saying, “Look! God’s
dwelling place is now among the people …”
It said He will be their God.
There will be no crying, dying, mourning, or pain there for that has all
passed away. (Revelation 21:3-4) Then
John was carried away in the spirit by one of the seven angels who had one of
the seven bowls full of the wrath of God to a high mountain. There he saw the new Jerusalem shining
brilliantly like a precious jewel. (Revelation 21:9-11) Then John gave a detailed description of the
city including its gates, walls, foundation, and its contents. (Revelation
21:12-26) Nothing impure will ever enter
it. (Revelation 21:27)
APPLICATION
After the present heaven and earth pass away there
will be a new heaven and a new earth as it was predicted. (Isaiah 65:17, 2
Peter 3:13, and Revelation 21:1) The
only people that will be there will be those whose names are written in The
Lamb’s book of life. (Revelation 21:27)
